Charlotte Flair Sheds Tears Discussing Andrade & Ric Flair
SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair has shown her emotional side as she discusses the WWE departures of fiance Andrade El Idolo and her father, Ric Flair.
In March 2021, former NXT Champion Andrade requested his release from WWE. While it was initially refused, the company soon relented and the Mexican star was let go on March 21st. Since then, he has joined AEW where he is known as Andrade El Idolo and he recently picked up a huge win over Darby Allin in the main event of Dynamite.
Two-time WWE Hall Of Famer Ric Flair followed in Andrade’s footsteps in August 2021 when he seemingly requested and was granted his release from his WWE contract. Since then Flair has appeared in Andrade’s corner in AAA as well as launching a podcast that has seemingly undergone a recent change of host.
Speaking to Ariel Helwani of BT Sport, Charlotte Flair has opened up about the WWE departures of two people that are very close to her and says as hard as it is for her to be apart from Andrade, but says his career and happiness are more important to her:
“A little difficult at first, I was like my two best friends were gone (Ric Flair and Andrade). But now I’m just used to… oh, you’re going to make me upset (wipes tears). Hold on.”
“It sucked because they’re my people. They would do anything for me. Go to bat. But Manny (Andrade) had to make career decisions and seeing him do so well is important. My dad comes and goes, comes and goes. That wasn’t as hard.”
“It’s just, it’s hard to see the couples at the back, you know, get to have that time together and I would do anything to have that time with Manny ’cause, like, that’s how we met was on the road. But, him being happy, to me, is what’s important – and he knows how much this means to me.”
“It’s just making the schedules to work and we’ll do anything to make it work. It’s just, I don’t have that ‘ride or die’ from town to town, but before Manny, I was doing it with Becky.”
Charlotte Flair has a huge task ahead of her at WrestleMania 38 as The Queen defends her SmackDown Women’s Championship against 2022 women’s Royal Rumble winner ‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey.
